Position: Site Operations Head

Major responsibilities:
A. Directs the animal care activities research sites by setting objectives and procedures; supervising AR management and technical personnel; and overseeing the operating/capital budget/expenditure process; all performed with a broad understanding of the impact within Clinical Operations. This person is responsible to ensure compliance on two levels. First, the position is responsible for ensuring compliance with USDA Animal Care, USDA Inspection and Compliance, and FDA (as required) regulations at the Merial-Georgia research sites. This primary level of compliance is critical to the continued operation of R&D activities and the licensing of future and existing products. Second, the position is responsible for compliance with federal, state and local regulatory mandates, such as OSHA, EPA, Georgia EPD, that affect the day-to-day operation of agricultural operations, research operations, and the related activities that are necessary components of the AR function.
B. This person ensures the welfare of research animals used at the companies sites and serves as an information resource within and outside Clinical Operations concerning animal welfare issues.
C. The incumbent is the attending veterinarian of facilities. It is responsible for substantially impacting the clinical research/development process by assisting researchers in animal model selection and optimizing the use of resources. Acts as veterinary scientist in the design of protocols, and the conduct and reporting of biological and pharmaceutical research and development studies.

Knowledge and Skills:

DVM degree with license (or eligibility) to practice veterinary medicine. A Master of Science and/or PhD degree is desirable.

Seven to ten year experience in veterinary medicine is required. Experience in laboratory animal medicine Board certification or board eligibility in Laboratory Animal Medicine is a plus.

Extensive animal welfare training and experience is needed.

Clinical research experience (including knowledge of regulatory requirements) is a plus.

Safety and compliance training in all aspects of HSE
